ORIIC brings together clinicians, researchers, engineers and collaborators with a shared focus on improving the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease.

Our team combines expertise in coronary intervention, cardiovascular imaging, physiology, computational modelling and translational research, working across disciplines to develop and evaluate technologies that can meaningfully improve patient care.

The ORIIC Team

Dr Giovanni Luigi De Maria MD, PhD

Research Group  Coordinator

Interventional Cardiology Consultant and Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Oxford.

His expertise lies in intravascular imaging, coronary physiology, and device-based interventions for acute coronary syndromes. He also focuses on coronary microvascular dysfunction and resistant hypertension. His research aims to understand and improve myocardial reperfusion in heart attack patients, integrating advanced invasive and non-invasive diagnostics to guide implementation of personalised cardiac care to enhance outcomes and quality of life in patients with coronary artery disease.

ORIC Team - Leadership

Research Group  Chair

Interventional Cardiology Consultant and Professor of Interventional Cardiology at the University of Oxford.

Former BCIS President and one of the UK’s leading interventional cardiologists with a global reputation for clinical and academic excellence. His research has shaped international guidelines, and he remains actively involved in high-impact clinical trials, education, and mentoring the next generation of cardiologists.

Prof Adrian P. Banning MD, MBBS
Dr Jeremy P. Langrish MD, PhD

Interventional Cardiology Consultant

Consultant Interventional Cardiologist and Senior Investigator within ORIIC. His expertise spans complex coronary intervention, chronic total occlusion (CTO) PCI, intracoronary imaging, and the management of cardiogenic shock. He also plays an active role in clinical research and Cardiology education.

ORIC Team - Fellows & Collaborators

Dr Afik Snir MD, PhD

Interventional Cardiology Clinical & Research Fellow

After completing his PhD and specialist training in Australia, he moved to Oxford to further develop his translational research portfolio, with a particular focus on renal denervation, coronary microvascular dysfunction, cardiovascular imaging and coronary physiology.

Imaging & Clinical  Cardiology Consulltant

Former Imaging Cardiology Fellow at Oxford and currently an Imaging and General Cardiologist based in Italy. As a Visiting Research Member of ORIIC, he collaborates on translational research using advanced Photon Counting CT imaging to guide and improve the management of refractory angina, acute myocardial infarction and renal denervation for resistant hypertension.

Dr Leonardo Portolan MD, PhD candidate
Dr Rafail Kotronias MD, DPhil candidate

Clinical Lecturer, University of Oxford

Clinical Research Fellow and DPhil candidate at the University of Oxford, his research focuses on advanced cardiac CT techniques, developing innovative imaging approaches to improve the diagnosis, risk stratification and treatment of acute and chronic ischaemic heart disease.

Dr Annabel Selina Jessica Eardley-Brunt , DPhil

Biomedical Engineer and AI Scientist

Visiting Research Collaborator within ORIIC. Her work combines artificial intelligence, computational modelling and advanced image analysis to support precision cardiovascular imaging, image-guided interventions and translational cardiovascular research.
